Impacted Tooth Extraction
Impacted teeth are teeth that haven't erupted in time and are trapped beneath the gums or bone. The rate of impaction progresses, in descending order, from lower wisdom teeth, upper wisdom teeth, upper canines, and lower premolars.
Impacted teeth that cannot be maintained with orthodontic treatment may require surgical extraction. Due to their location, wisdom teeth are the most difficult to brush. Therefore, they can easily decay, causing pain and odor. Furthermore, their location can put pressure on the adjacent teeth, leading to crowding and decay. Redness and swelling of the gums surrounding the wisdom tooth, pain in the neck and ear, and difficulty opening the mouth may occur. This condition is called pericoronitis. Wisdom teeth may also need to be extracted for orthodontic treatment.
Things To Keep In Mind After The Extraction:
Smoking should be avoided for the first 24 hours, as it delays the healing process. Spitting, rinsing, or brushing should be avoided. Mild swelling is normal. Ice should be applied for the first 24 hours. Prescribed medications should be taken regularly.
